Author:  Ailith_Aran
Pairing:  Hermione/Ron
Rating:  G
Wordcount: 565 words
Summary:  I believe this is a challenge posted by Inell a long, long time ago and I wanted to write it.  Includes a broken umbrella and a bit of frustration.
Disclaimer:  So not mine.
Warnings:  I'll be honest, it's my first fanfic.  Hoping for a bit of feedback here.

The rain fell steadily around her; the gloomy atmosphere echoing her emotions inside.  A tear slipped down her cheek.  The cozy village of Hogsmeade looked empty since all the other students who had opted to take a small trip here were hiding inside the warm buildings.  Most would be in The Three Broomsticks, drinking hot Butterbeer; in fact, that’s where Hermione left Harry and Ron by telling them she needed to go to Honeydukes again before they left.  The boys had accepted her story, if only because they had no desire to go out in the rain before it was absolutely necessary.  It wasn’t a complete lie; she did really need some of the store’s delicious chocolate at the moment, maybe a couple of Sugar Quills as well, after all, that’s what supposed to cheer a girl up, right?

The full reason she was out in the rain, hiding carefully under her small yellow umbrella, was because she needed to get away from them.  They were both so oblivious!  Well, Ron was oblivious and Harry was enabling his obliviousness.  And that just wasn’t fair.  No, it was Ron’s own fault if he’s ignorant.  Not hers and definitely not Harry’s.  Her normally calm, composed thoughts were scattered everywhere.

The wind quickly picked up, whipping Hermione’s hair around her head, when all of a sudden, the umbrella broke, flipping inside out.  Hermione let out a frustrated wail.

“This isn’t fair!  This was supposed to be a good day,” she yelled out.  She threw her umbrella down and it hit a puddle, which splashed up at her shoes.  She picked up the umbrella again, ashamed that she had the little fit when she could easily just repair the umbrella.

            “Reparo,” she muttered.

‘You ok?” a familiar voice asked from right behind her.  A voice that, she loved to hear because it made her feel all warm inside and that she hated to hear because all she can do is listen to him and imagine what he would say to a girlfriend.

“Of course I am.  Why do you ask?” Hermione responded, as she turned to face him, hoping that the tears on her face would look more like raindrops.

“Well if I’m going to say what I’m going to say, I would hope you’d be ok before I said it, because if you’re not ok, then this could be strange,”

“Well, er, what?”  She asked, trying to sort out what Ron had said, turning the words over in her mind to see if they made any sense at all.

“Sorry,” Ron mumbled, a barely noticeable blush creeping up on his cheeks.  “Let me try again.  I really like you, Hermione.  I know I shouldn’t do this cause we’re friends and everything could go wrong but I think it could go even more wrong if we don’t try.  What do you think?”  Ron, who had remained focused on her and confident for the whole of his short speech, now, looked at the ground, giving an excellent performance as a child who’s just been caught with his hand in the cookie drawer.  A small smile appeared on Hermione’s face.

“Yes; of course.”  She smiled up at him.  He let out a breath he must have been holding and then he timidly brought his lips down to brush hers.  She kissed him back, her tears and desire for chocolate completely forgotten.
